Congress may ask Kerala Congress to replace Joseph Chazhikkadan

Kottayam: Congress is likely to ask Kerala Congress to replace its present Kottayam candidate Joseph Chazhikkadan as there is no let up in the simmering tiff between Kerala Congress working chairman P J Joseph and Jose K Mani, son of the party chairman K M Mani, over denying the lone LS seat allotted to it by the UDF, to Joseph .

Congress fears that simmering difference in Kerala Congress will affect the prospects of UDF candidates in Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki, where Kerala Congress Joseph faction is a force to be reckoned with in these districts. In Pathanamthitta and Idukki, Congress is contesting and presently, the party holds the seats.

But Kerala Congress ascertains that it will not replace its candidate in Kottayam under any circumstance. Party MLA Joshi Augustine said that the party is happy if Congress will offer its Idukki seat to Joseph.

In Kottayam, Congress cannot see eye to eye with Jose K Mani as the former alleges that the Mani Junior has reached a tacit understanding with CPM Kottayam district secretary V N Vasavan, CPM candidate in Kottayam, and thus with the support of CPM, Kerala Congress has wrested power in Kottayam district panchayat from Congress.

A section in Congress alleges that comparatively weak candidate Chazhikkadan has been fielded by Jose K Mani denying the seat to Joseph to pave way for Vasavan’s victory.
